Ivan Bilibin gained popularity with his illustrations of Russian folk tales and Slavic folklore. His work was throughout his career inspired by the art and culture of Old Russia. The plot of the composition gives a common motif to all the details of this coffee pair. A magnificent drawing on the base of the cup illustrates the plot from the fairy tale of Alexander Pushkin “The Tale of the Fisherman and the Fish”, where the fisherman caught a goldfish and it offers him the fulfillment of his wishes for freedom.
