This is a unique porcelain tea set “Rat Thieves” of a limited edition. The “Heraldic” form was created at Imperial Porcelain Factory for the heraldic service specifically for the Pavlovsk Palace in the middle of the 19th century. The painting is devoted to the heroes of the famous ballet “Nutcracker” of the Mariinsky Theatre. It was created by Mihail Chemiakin, a famous Russian painter, stage designer, sculpture, and publisher, under the special project with Lomonosov Porcelain Factory that in 2020 celebrated 275 years from the factory establishing. Chemiakin interpreted the image of the rats in his own peculiar way where rat thieves in fancy costumes are placed on a form designed in the 19th century. Chemiakin was the stage designer of “Nutcracker” and being a great fan of Hoffman, he created a wonderful world of phantasmagoria and grotesque stepping away from the traditional Alexandr Duma’s interpretation of the fairy tale. Over 1000 sketches were made and wooden sculptures were carved to help in creating mise-en-scenes. He did not only create the costumes and decorations but also advised the choreographer about the character’s calisthenics. “Nutcracker” by Mariinsky Theatre is performed on the world’s biggest stages with great success. The set for 2 people contains 7 items, for 6 people – 15 items.
